Youth for Asian Theater presents Smells Like A Rat

Join Youth for Asian Theater for an evening of original plays and monologues written, directed and performed by San Francisco youth.

• "Second Generation, Second Guess" written by Nathan Dizon, directed by Ollie Reyes.
  Dillon is torn between two things when it comes to maintaining his traditional Asian customs and new American life, and thankfully the two sides of his conscience, Red and Blue, are here to help in his time of trial, as his high school crush, Tammy, experiences the same problems.
• "Give Me Sexy, Girl" written by Liana Lo, directed by Amanda Arenas.
  Skyler has this complicated problem assigned during physics class--due this Friday.
• "Snap Your Fingers" written by Grace Koyama, directed by Polina Litvak and Delaney Woo.
  Faust: the telemarketer version.
• "Hardboiled Detective" written by Griffin Tyree, directed by Cathy Huang and Paul Mallari.
  A lurid 30's crime drama that's got a plot with more twists and turns than Sarah Jessica Parker's facial contours.
• "My Best Friend" written and directed by Stephanie Tong.
  Companion. Confidant. Bosom buddy. Your other half. A best friend is all you really need, right?
• "Anything On Your Mind" written and directed by Kim Do.
  A nervous psychologist attempts to help a convicted murderer let go of his past.
• "Fantastic Elastic" written by Mark Lee, directed by Jacinta Wu and Brandon Cai.
  A tribute to Korean pop music, cheap soda, and all that is fantastic.

Youth for Asian Theater is the only not-for-profit San Francisco theater company in which students operate all aspects of theater production. Thus, YFAT members are given the opportunity to develop into articulate and effective leaders. YFAT is absolutely free not only for actors, but for audience members as well, enabling us to reach a large part of the community not typically exposed to theater. YFAT is also the only San Francisco youth acting group that concentrates on the struggles of being Asian-American, a much-neglected subject in a city where the population is one-third Asian and local history is rich with Asian culture. Every summer, members rehearse rigorously for eight weeks at the Sunset Recreation Center of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
